Grimsby Docks Conservation Area
A government building within a conservation area on Grimsby docks had been suffering from vandalism over a long period and had been stacking up repair costs running into many tens of thousands of pounds. A solution was needed that could deliver effective security but which was sympathetic to the surounding historical buildings. Concerns were also expressed regarding loss of natural light on the work enviroment.
Crime Shield (Midlands) Ltd were asked to advise on a solution and were able to install “Crime Shield” barriers over the windows, matching the curved head of the window and also the transome bar of the sash window.
The whole cost of 38 “Crime Shield” barriers was a fraction of the yearly glazing budget. When lux testing had been measured before and after the installation it was found that that although the mesh would appear to cut out 30 – 40% of light, in real life there was only a minimal difference shown in the test results.
The overall visual effect on the conservation area was negligable but the resultant suspension of vandalism improved the whole area and gave an improved working enviroment far all involved.
